Sausalito, CA
Sausalito,_CA)
Sausalito is like a stage where one production has followed another for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Whatever the theme or plot, Sausalito, with its characteristic flair, has provided a setting to match the action. For between three and five millennia, the backdrop it provided for a cluster of Native American (Coastal Miwok) villages remained fairly constant. Its tranquil surface varied little over time. But with the successive arrival in Northern California of the Spanish, Mexicans, and Euro-Americans, the stage was set for dramatic change.

Legion of Honor
legionofhonor
The Legion of Honor was the gift of Alma de Bretteville Spreckels, wife of the sugar magnate and thoroughbred racehorse owner/breeder Adolph B. Spreckels. The building is a three-quarter-scale version of the Palais de la Légion d'Honneur also known as the Hôtel de Salm in Paris by George Applegarth and H. Guillaume. It was completed in 1924. The museum building occupies an elevated site in Lincoln Park in the northwest of the city, with views over the Golden Gate Bridge. Most of the surrounding Lincoln Park Golf Course is on the site of a potter's field called the "Golden Gate Cemetery" that the City had bought in 1867. The cemetery was closed in 1908 and the bodies were relocated to Colma. During seismic retrofitting in the 1990s, however, coffins and skeletal remains were unearthed. The plaza and fountain in front of the Palace of the Legion of Honor is the western terminus of the Lincoln Highway, the first road across America.

The museum began in 1984 as the Jewish Community Museum located in San Francisco’s financial district. Ten years later, the board decided to move to the Yerba Buena Gardens on Mission Street. Architect Peter Eisenman proposed a design for the new building, but the museum’s trustees and local residents rejected it. In 1998, the museum hired Daniel Libeskind and construction began in 2006. The museum has no permanent collection. Instead, it curates and hosts a broad array of exhibitions, such as “In the Beginning: Artists Respond to Genesis” and "From The New Yorker to Shrek: The Art of William Steig," throughout the year.

The Exploratorium is a museum in San Francisco that has created over 1,000 participatory exhibits that mix science and art, almost all of which were made onsite. It is considered by some to be the prototype for participatory museums around the world. It has been engaged in the professional development of teachers, science education reform, and the promotion of museums as informal education centers since its founding in the Palace of Fine Arts in 1969 by physicist and educator Frank Oppenheimer. Since Oppenheimer's death in 1985, the Exploratorium has expanded into other domains, including online communities, and has helped to create an international network of museums working to solve problems with general science education.[4] The Exploratorium offers visitors a variety of ways—including exhibits, webcasts, websites and events—to explore and understand the world around them.

Fleur De Lys
fleur-de-lys-2
A truly original cuisine featuring contemporary French cooking with Mediterranean accents has emerged from Keller’s rich and varied career. He observes classic French principles and maintains a California-style commitment to health while incorporating the culinary traditions of Alsace, Brazil, and San Francisco. Accordingly, he pioneered a six-course vegetarian menu for Fleur de Lys making it the first fine-dining American restaurant to offer this option. Keller’s cooking maximizes the intrinsic goodness of pure flavors and high quality ingredients while using minimal butter and cream. His healthful cuisine led Dr. Dean Ornish, the noted cardiologist, to ask Keller to contribute recipes to Dr. Ornish’s best selling cookbook, Eat More, Weigh Less.

Brenda's French Soul Food
brenda
In 2007 when I decided to open my own little spot, I coined the phrase “French Soul Food” to describe my personal style of cuisine that I wanted to bring to the public. What I hope to convey is a soulful mixture of Southern, Creole and French cuisines presented in a down-home style and atmosphere. Fueled by an unwavering desire to see an idea through and one super supportive girlfriend, I was able to turn a shoddy Tenderloin greasy spoon found on Craigslist into my dream restaurant. One wedding and thousands of Yelp reviews later and Brenda’s is still going strong. If you’re craving something soulful, satisfying and sexy come by and try us out. If you already have, and keep coming back for more, then—thanks!

Named for its original watercolors, Acquerello envelops guests in a warm and gracious atmosphere the moment they arrive. A recent renovation of the 22-year old restaurant, led by designer John Wheatman, highlights the former chapel, graced with arches and a rustic wood-beamed vaulted ceiling, with warm Mediterranean colors of gold and terracotta. Co-owners Giancarlo Paterlini and Suzette Gresham-Tognetti work together to provide an unparallel Italian dining experience. Acquerello has received countless awards, including a Michelin star in the first-ever 2007 Bay Area guide, as well as 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. The 45 seat dining room is softly illuminated with light from polished brass lamps which dances off an extensive collection of crystal decanters and a large floral bouquet greeting guests as they enter.

Kokkari Estiatorio
kokkari-estiatorio-pic2
The ancient Greeks (Hellenes) made countless contributions to the modern world culture. From philosophy to architecture to mathematics to Hellenic cuisine, their achievements are legendary. Now, a San Francisco restaurant, Kokkari Estiatorio, celebrates another accomplishment - cuisine fit for the gods. Named after a small fishing village on the island of Samos in the Aegean Sea, Kokkari is the sister restaurant to acclaimed Evvia Estiatorio in Palo Alto, California. Legend tells us that Kokkari is the site where Orion, son of the Greek god Poseidon, fell in love with the daughter of the King of Chios. For the love of her, Orion foraged the island for wild game and seafood to prepare elaborate banquets. On entering Kokkari, guests experience the old-world charm of a rustic Mediterranean country inn on the shores of the Aegean. An inviting fireplace, extensive woodwork, hand-made pottery and freshly picked flowers all reflect the warmth and tradition of ages-old hospitality.

Patxi's Chicago Pizza
Paxti-Pizza
Patxi’s began in the summer of 2004 in Palo Alto, CA, when a pizza lover and avid entrepreneur, Bill Freeman, partnered with an old friend and expert pizza maker, Francisco “Patxi” Azpiroz. Today, nearly a decade and multiple locations later, the pair have turned their passion for fresh deep dish pizza and genuine hospitality into a signature experience that can only be summed up as “Patxi’s.” Much more than just another pizza joint, Patxi’s embodies what your favorite neighborhood restaurant should be—a warm, welcoming place where you can share a delicious meal with friends and family and feel like you’ve belonged all along. As we continue to grow and bring the Patxi’s experience to more communities across the country, we’ll stay true to our roots and never forget what makes each bite of our pizza so special. When you walk through our doors, you’re in for treat. When you sit down at our table, you’re family. Welcome home.

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) is a large non-profit theater company in San Francisco, California, that offers both classical and contemporary theater productions. A.C.T. was founded in 1965 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Playhouse and Carnegie Mellon University by theatre and opera director William Ball. By invitation from San Francisco philanthropists and officials, Ball relocated the company to San Francisco and astonished the theatre world by presenting twenty-seven fully staged productions in rotating repertory, in two different theatres, the Geary and the Marine's Memorial Theatre, during the first 40-week season. San Francisco Chronicle critic Paine Knickerbocker acclaimed Ball's opening performance of Molière's Tartuffe as "a screaming, bellowing unbelievable triumph."
